Music Movin’ Monday – A Footloose Stop Screwin’ With it Edition

With the risk of sounding old, I’m asking….

“Is there any originality left these days?”

I feel sorry for the kids now.  For those born after 1992, you’ve been duped.  I challenge you to come up with an original musician, dance move or movie that was “ground breaking”.

(Amos Lee has already been spoken for.)

Beyoncé, girl you ain’t doin’ nothing special.  Seen It!  Lady GaGa? It’s called Madonna sweetie.  Chris Brown and Rihanna?  It’s called Ike and Tina Turner without talent- go sit down somewhere! Seriously.

Now they’ve remade Footloose. *sigh*.  I’m not happy and won’t be hurrying anytime soon to place it in my Netflix que for streaming when it’s available in a month or so.

So my question is, “Have you seen the NEW Footloose movie or plan to?  Let us know.  Until then, let’s watch and do those last few classic Kevin Bacon steps together….(everybody cut, everybody cut…and repeat)

  1. I’m with you on that one. Heck, the only reason I tolerated it the first time around, was for the music, especially, “Let’s hear it for the boy….” Oh yeah, and back when this was released, it wasn’t financially beneficial for the movie industry to include Rap, R&B, or Hip Hop (not even sure hip hop even had a name/title yet) music or themes within a movie. You remember that? So, growing up in that era, in Kansas, we were starved to see that 15 second dance move that showed even a glimpse of being similar to break-dancing. But, what did Footloose give us? Some country bumpkin doing the jumping jacks in 3 second clips, so we didn’t see him tripping over his cowboy boots. Oh yeah, there was one guy doing some foot and ground work, but that wasn’t reality either. I mean, how are they going to sell us this notion that this small Midwestern town was so sheltered, they couldn’t even have a stupid high school dance, but yet, there was one that miraculously knew enough about Urban life that he could break-dance???? So, hip-hop was developed in a small rural town, not the urban streets in New York? Yeah, whatever, don’t get me started, lol.
